5 Small Ways to Pour Into Yourself

It’s easy to give so much attention to your family, home, work and everything else that somehow you end up last on your own list.

Learning how to pour into yourself doesn’t have to mean some huge reset. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that help you feel like yourself again.

Here are five I’m working on right now.

1. Give Yourself a Slower Start

For me, slower mornings actually require more discipline.

Going to bed earlier and waking up earlier gives me enough time to start my day without immediately feeling rushed. I can get myself together and handle what needs to be done without feeling like I’m already behind.

Sometimes a slower life starts with simply giving yourself more time.

2. Get Ready Just Because

Getting out of bed, doing my hair, getting dressed, quick makeup touch up and adding those little touches that make me look and smell good changes how I feel.

It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. I just know that when I look good, I feel good.

And I don’t need somewhere special to go to take care of myself.

3. Do Something Simply Because You Enjoy It

Not everything has to be productive.

I genuinely enjoy scrolling through Pinterest and looking through fashion sites. There doesn’t have to be a business reason behind it or something I’m trying to accomplish.

Sometimes I can simply enjoy something because I like it.

4. Take Care of Your Space

A clean kitchen gives me so much peace.

When I’m not using it, I want it spotless. Having that one space clean and put together immediately makes me feel better emotionally.

Your space might be different. Find the little area in your home that makes you feel calmer when it’s clean and start there.

5. Check In With Yourself

For me, I need more discipline, movement, and strength. I also want to consume less sugar because I’ve noticed personally that too much of it leaves me feeling sluggish. Part of learning how to pour into yourself is being honest about what you need in this season.

Ask yourself: What do I need more of right now? What do I need less of?

Checking in with myself helps me recognize what’s making me feel good—and what isn’t.

Start Small

Pouring back into yourself doesn’t require changing your entire life overnight.

Get some rest. Put yourself together. Do something you enjoy. Take care of your space. Pay attention to what you need.

Remember, if you don’t pour into yourself, it becomes harder to pour into others.

One small act of care still counts.
